Here's one of those weird little details that readers always notice: Several people called me Monday to tell me their copies of the editorial page had a strange flaw -- the text down the first column on the left was wavy. Was that intentional?
Definitely not, and I couldn't find an example in the building. One reader in Topeka kindly mailed me his edition, and there it is, right before my eyes. In fact, every black element on the page has the same little smooth dip of about a centimeter.
One of the people who called me asked why it was only the black, and not the color. That's because the color printing process usually uses four different inked plates (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) that layer color together on the paper. This looks like an issue with just the black one.
I'm sending this over to the production department for their diagnosis. Once again, readers show how keen their eyes and attention are.
