A reader called me to express her irritation that a post on the Midwest Voices blog ran without a byline.
"Shouldn't these people putting out their opinions also put their names on them?" she asked.
Absolutely. And this time, it turns out it was a technical error. The blog post in question was never meant to be anonymous. It is by contributing Midwest Voices columnist Carol Ayers. It's now been fixed.
I know I say this frequently, but it bears repeating: The unsigned editorials in the Opinion section aren't anonymous either. They are to express the group consensus of the editorial board, whose names are noted in the masthead every day. Yes, they will tell readers who actually took to the keyboard to pen the words, but the editorials are meant to be on behalf of the group. And yes, there is often dissent from one or more members of the board.
