I will let this reader's point of view speak for itself, about a story posted on KansasCity.com yesterday.
(This story) is an excellent example of someone successfully defending himself and his property with a gun. While it is mentioned in the story, it would have been far more effective if the headline read “Homeowner with gun thwarts burglary, holds suspect for police”. It would have been accurate and it would have been an example of a responsible gun owner defending themselves. I can only believe it was left out to push a particular point of view.
I’m not a “gun nut”. I do own 4 long guns for hunting, but I do not belong to the NRA. I am not opposed to a background check in all gun sales. We also need to do more on mental health issues to keep unstable people from getting a gun.
Does it seem intentional to you? It does to this reader.

securing guns
One of the reasons for having a gun in your house is for protection against intruders. While securing the gun makes sense when children are in the house, I'd really like to be able to get to the gun before the invader can attack me.
Maybe
I read this story yesterday too and clicked on it to SEE if the homeowner used a gun. The trouble with putting that in the headline - I think - is that the burglars also tried to STEAL the guy's guns and use them on HIM because he didn't lock them up. I think leaving the gun out of the headline was a good move because it wasn't just a heroic gun-owner story, but also a dumb-dumb-gun-owner-who-got-lucky story. The situation could have easily ended with the homeowner getting shot - but it didn't. Leaving the gun aspect out of the headline keeps the story from slanting to either side with: "Gun owner defends home" or "Burglars steal homeowner's gun".
