Some readers were not happy to see the centerpiece photo on today's front page, used to illustrate a story on record gun sales in recent weeks.
In the photo, Chris Coad, owner of UT Arms in Kansas City, Kan., is seen holding an AR-15, which he sells in his shop.
"Thank you to The Star for ruining my breakfast," said one caller I spoke with this morning. "We don't need to see those people with their guns in our paper."
Firearms bring out an emotional response in many people, though I also understand the point of view that this particular image could be viewed as rather neutral. This is one of those examples of a subject that readers of a general-interest publication will always disagree about.
